8th Grade Dad’s Day Friday, 2/27

8th grade Dad’s in Mrs. Talarico’s homeroom:  Dad’s day will be on Friday 2/27 from 8:15 – 11:15.  Breakfast in the auditorium at 8:15.  Forms must be returned by Friday 2/13.  Please excuse the typo on the form which read Thursday, 2/27.  It is Friday, 2/27.

Extra Credit for February:  Black History Report due by 2/27.  Get directions from Mrs. T.  Your subject cannot be an entertainer or sports figure.

Homework:  Ch. 10 Study guides due Friday, Test Ch. 10 Friday.  Extra Help session Thursday & Friday morning at 7:20.

Monday:  Biography Packet.

Tuesday:  Discuss answers to Bio Packet.  Jackson v National Bank.  Jackson and economy.  Election of 1836.  Supreme Court & Capitalism p. 331.  Graphic Organizer p. 331 #5.  Quiz 10-2 tomorrow.

Wednesday:  Quiz 10-2.  Building Background p. 332.  Indian Removal Map Activity.  Jackson and Indian Removal.  Quiz 10-3 tomorrow.

Thursday:  Shadow Reading from 2 points of view on Indian removal & states rights.  Quiz 10-3.

Friday:  Check for Study Guide completion.  Test Ch. 10.  Begin reading Ch. 11.

Science, Week of 2/9

Important upcoming dates for science: Ch. 18 workbook pages due on Wed. 2/18, Ch. 18 Study guide and test on Thurs. 2/19.  “In the Bag” Extra Credit due by 2/23.

Monday: Ch. 18 Vocabulary WS Open book

Tuesday: Work and Power. Instruction, practice, and activity on definitions and calculations for work and power.

Wednesday: 1st Period: CHS Assembly about registration. 2nd & 3rd. Straw Rocket lab.

Thursday: Graded WS on calculating work and power. Calculators allowed. I do not have a class set, students must bring their own simple 4 function calculators. Machines, mechanical advantage, and mechanical efficiency – instruction and practice.

Friday: Graded Worksheet on mechanical advantage & mechanical effeciency. 6 types of simple machine.

Homework for week:

Ch. 17 workbook pages due Wed.

Ch. 17 Study guide due and test Thurs.

Monday:  Inertia instruction, activities, and mini quiz.

Tuesday:  Newton’s 2nd Law discovery activity using computer animation.  Graded WS on force, mass, and acceleration.  Calculators allowed on all math problems in science.  I do not have a class set, students can bring simple 4 function calculators.

Wednesday:  Ch. 17 Workbook pages due.  Newton’s 3rd Law demos, simulations, and instruction.

Thursday:  Check for study guide completion.  Jeopardy test review.  Ch. 17 Test.  Begin reading Ch. 18 and working on workbook pages.

Friday:  Ch. 18 Vocabulary worksheet.  Work on Ch. 18 workbook pages and study guides.

Social Studies week of 2/2

Monday:  Ch. 9 Tests reviewed and returned.  Study Island assignment #2 in computer lab.  Must be finished by 2/27.

Tuesday:  Chapter 10-1.  Jacksonian Democracy.  Timeline introduction.  Expanded voter’s rights. Ch. 10 Study Guides distributed.   Quiz tomorrow.

Wednesday:  Quiz Section 10-1.  Begin Section 10-2:  Jackson’s Administration.

Thursday:  Activity:  Opposite views:  Jackson and Webster.  Finish Section 10-2.

Friday:  Quiz Section 10-2.  Seminole Indian Wars Geography Activity.  Work on Study Guides.

Homework for Week:  Work on Ch. 17 workbook pages and study guides.

Monday:  Test Ch. 16.  Groups work on Final Exploravision project.  Due tomorrow – test grade.

Tuesday:  Begin Ch. 17:  Newton’s Beads Demo.  Students write observations in notebooks.  Gravity, and motion, terminal velocity.  Computer animations.

Wednesday:  Graphing Motion Lab.

Thursday:  Free fall and projectile motion.  Quicklab:  Projectile motion in notebooks.

Friday:  Force, Mass, Acceleration Lab.

Social Studies, Week of 1/26

Homework for week:

1.  Ch. 9 Study Guide due and Ch. 9 Test on Friday.

2.  Study Island Economics quizzes must be completed 1/30.  studyisland.org

Monday:  Read American Arts at the bottom of p308 – p. 311 and answer Analyzing Information question p. 311.  Quiz 9-2:  Nationalism and Sectionalism. Read Erie Canal and answer questions.   Begin teaching 9-3 – American Culture.

Tuesday:  Finish 9-3.  Groups make graphic organizers about American visual art,  songs, literature, education.  If absent, do Graphic organizer on page 311 #5.

Wednesday:  Pep Ralley

Thursday:  Quiz on Section 9-3.  Read excerpts from American Writers and discuss.  TCAP practice.  Review for test tomorrow.

Friday:  Test Ch. 9.  Start reading Ch. 10.

Social Studies Week of 1/20

Study Island quizzes on Economics must be completed by 1/30. Students can do some at home by going to studyisland.com. They have thier usernames and passwords. They can do game or test mode.

Tuesday: Inauguration activities/discussion. Ch. 8 Tests returned and discussed. Ch. 9 Study guides distributed. TCAP practice p. 293. Timeline activity p. 294/5.

Wednesday: Discuss p. 293-295. Instruction on America’sforeign policy, Section 9-1. Groups make graphic organizers of Nations, Agreement/Doctrine, Issue and Effects (p.301 #4). Carousel Activity. Response system practice quiz on Sec. 1 tomorrow.

Thursday: 9-1 quiz using cps response system. Nationalism & Sectionalism. Anticipation guide followed by instruction. Change anticipation guide answers if needed.

Friday: Erie Canal p. 306-307. Cumberland Road Map Activity. Quiz on 9-2 Monday. Study Island questions on computers.
